How many times have you told your little one that you are too busy to play with them because you were too tired or you couldn't face the thoughts of getting down on the floor and using your imagination.

However, you might change your mind when you realise that playing not only benefits your child, but it also has a pretty good affect on you as well.

Here are four ways playing can benefit your mind, body and soul:

Helps relieve stress

When you enjoy playing it helps to release endorphins - the body’s feel good hormone. Whether it’s playing a game of football with them, drawing funny pictures or make-believe, your stress levels will be significantly reduced and your blood pressure lowered after a game with your child.

Helps boost creativity

Your child’s mind works differently to yours and they can open your eyes to a whole new world of creativity. Particularly if you are playing with toys that require you to make-believe, your creative side will flourish and your imagination be stimulated.

Helps you connect with your child

One of the most important things about play is that it helps you connect with your child. Getting down to their level, enjoying a shared interest or allowing them to introduce you to something new will help improve your relationship with your little one.  You are also giving them your undivided attention – often something they crave.

Benefits your brain function

Playing games like puzzles, chess, card games or board games that challenge your brain can help improve your memory and brain function.
