The night before back-to-school is a particularly busy evening for mums as they try to get everything ready for the morning.

The following list will ensure everything runs smoothly:

Get the uniform ready
To ease the morning stress, have your little ones’ uniform ready the night before. This means ensuring it is clean, ironing out all the creases and polishing shoes. Lay it all out in their bedroom so it is easy for them to get dressed in the morning.

Label everything
Iron or sew labels on everything before they go back - they can still lose their new jumper even on the first day.

Hair accessories
Have the hair brush, bobbins and clips ready to be used. This will save you looking frantically around the house for something to tidy up your little one’s hair when you are rushing out the door.

Remove nail polish
If your child has been wearing nail polish during the summer months make sure it is removed before they go back to class. You don’t want them getting in trouble on the first day. This also includes any hair accessories that they aren’t allowed wear, like braids.

Bath time
A bath the night before is a great way to not only ensure your little one is clean but it will also help to relax them into sleep, especially if they are going a lot earlier than they have been over the holidays.

Make their lunch
You can get your little one involved in this by asking them what they would like to eat or getting them to butter bread. This will save you a lot of hassle and time in the morning.

Check their books
Double check they have all their books, copies and folders in their bag ready to go. Leave it beside the front door or on a kitchen chair so that it is easy to grab in the morning.

Check supplies
Another item you need to check is that your little one has their pencil case filled with the right supplies: pencil, pen, ruler, rubber, sharpener etc. Put it in their bag where they will be to find it easily.

Get the breakfast stuff ready
Lay out the breakfast table with cereal, bowls, cups and plates depending on what your little one is having for breakfast.

Read them a story
Finally, before they go to sleep sit down beside them and read them a story - they might be feeling a little anxious and want to just cuddle you. If it is your little one’s first day a book on going to school would be ideal.
