It’s bad enough that grown women are made to feel inadequate by unrealistic beauty standards, but listening to this four-year-old girl is a real eye-opener.

When her mum catches little Mia taking items from her make-up bag, the gorgeous girl says: “I really wanted to look pretty like you.”

She begins applying more contouring powder, telling her mum she wants to make her face skinny.

Mia’s mother repeatedly tells her she doesn’t need make-up and that she’s already beautiful, but it’s clear the message just isn’t sinking in.

We know many little girls like playing with make-up, but to see her say she's doing it to look pretty and to make her face skinny is really upsetting. It really makes us rethink the messages we’re giving our kids about what true beauty is.
