A 22-month-old toddler has tragically died in Atlanta, US, after being locked in a car for eight hours, after his father forgot to drop him off at his crèche.

The child’s father then drove to work with the toddler still in the backseat.

When he finished work he realised that his child was still in the backseat and was not responding. Driving to a shopping parking lot to find help, he attempted to revive him but it proved unsuccessful.

A witness at the tragic scene said: “He hopped out of his car. I didn’t know what he was doing at the time. But, he eventually pulled the child out of the car seat. I guess he was trying to un-restrain him ... He pulled him out of the car seat, laid him on the ground and was trying to resuscitate him. He was constantly saying ‘What have I done, what have I done.’”

According to police in the area, temperatures in the car would have reached as high as 60 degrees celsius. The father could face charges of involuntary manslaughter following the incident.
