If you are anything like us, one of the most common phrases to be uttered under your breathe has to be 'grant me patience’or something similar. It is definitely uttered by us a least twice a day, usually in the morning when we are trying to get our little ones to put on their shoes or in the evenings when it’s pyjama time.

If you do find yourself becoming more and more impatient with your child, take note of the following steps to help you feel calmer:

Just breathe

If you are rushing out the door and it is at that moment your youngster decides to look for a teddy to bring with them, remember to breathe. Realistically, it should only take about a minute or two for them to get it so rather than giving out to them for making you even more late, just say ‘ok’ and breathe.

Make sure you get enough sleep

We know this is hard when you have kids to look after, but the more tired you are the less patient you will feel. If possible, head to bed a little earlier in the evenings or even try to put your feet up for ten or fifteen minutes during the day.

Don’t try to do two or three things at once

We know multitasking is a major part of motherhood, but sometimes having to do too many things at once can be distracting and when we become interrupted, we get annoyed. To change this and feel a little less stressed, do one thing at a time and focus your attention on it.

Put away your phone

Seriously, when you are on your phone you are not 'all there' as your mind is being distracted. So when your child interrupts you or doesn’t do what they are told right away, you can become impatient with them quite easily. Just put it away.

Get up/ leave ten minutes earlier

The morning time is definitely the number one time when your patience is tested. The solution? Get up ten minutes earlier. This will mean that when your child is moving in slow motion it won’t rile you up as much because you’ll be ahead of yourself.
