It can be hard to see our kids making mistakes and having to deal with the sense of failure after; it can be equally difficult for mums too, especially it the mistake has a ripple effect, as they so often have to clean up the mess made.

 

However, rather than despair and do all you can to help prevent them making one in the first place, your youngster will actually benefit when they occasionally do mess up. 

 

Here are five positives about getting it wrong now and again:

 

It teaches them to problem solve

How can your child ever learn to problem solve if you are always fixing their mistakes or making sure they don’t make them in the first place. Allowing your little one to figure out how to fix things when they mess up will teach them to problem solve and understand why they made it in the first place.

 

It helps them learn to control their emotions

It can be frustrating when you realise you have done something wrong, but with each mistake that your youngster makes, they will learn to be control their anger and frustrations. This emotional control will benefit them as they grow into adults. 

 

Teaches them to be responsible

Every time your youngster makes a mistake it teaches them to be more responsible and aware of their actions so that they don’t do it again. They also learn to take responsibility and not play the blame game.

 

Helps them feel independent

Knowing that they can handle certain situations when the going gets tough can give them a sense of independence. It also helps you see them for the person they are and realise that they can handle certain things without you.

 

It can help them be open and honest

Sometimes your youngster will have to come to you to help fix the problem, whether they want to or not. However, this simple act helps them to know that you are there to help them and offer support and for them to be open and honest about what they've done.
