For many mothers, dealing with fellow mums at the school gate can be the hardest part of the day. There are plenty of opportunities for arguments and even your confidence can be hit if you encounter a 'yummy mummy' on the wrong morning.

But like it or not, you're stuck with these mums for next few years so it's important to learn how to deal with the situation - if only to save yourself a headache.

Tips to survive the school run:
  • Always make the effort to say hello to your child’s friends and their parents.
  • Don’t just confine yourself to speaking with parents from your child’s class. Strike up a conversation with whoever is standing beside you. You will get to know a lot more people this way.
  • Some mums can feel lonely and lost at the gate so try and include them in any conversations. If you are feeling a bit lost, remember you are not alone.
  • Swop numbers with each other and make yourself available to help out if needed.
  • Don’t worry about your appearance - so long as your child is happy and healthy going to school then your job is done.
