We would all be lost without the kindness and courage of those everyday heroes who so selflessly put others before themselves, and Maria Foley is one such woman.
 
Ms Foley has come in for major praise today, after jumping into the River Lee in Cork, to save a three-year-old child who had fallen into the water.
 
According to reports, the tot was walking with an au-pair along St Patrick’s Quay in the city, when he slipped under the railings and tumbled into the river.

Ms Foley was passing when the frightening incident occurred, and she courageously jumped in after the toddler, managing to keep him above the water until emergency services arrived on the scene.
 
Both the child and Ms Foley were lifted from the river and rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment. The child is now said to be in a stable condition.
 
Meanwhile, Twitter has been abuzz with praise for local hero Maria, who has been lauded for her bravery.
