How much exercise does a toddler need?

Since most toddlers are very busy little people – running, jumping, climbing, dancing, and twirling – it’s unlikely that you’ll have to encourage him to exercise at all. In fact, you’re probably wondering how you can get him to slow down a little!

Toddlers are naturally inquisitive about their worlds, and they want to exercise – when that means playing, running, jumping, and having fun. Therefore, you’re unlikely to have to encourage him to do any exercise.

If your child does happen to be the quieter type, then it’s up to you to get him moving. Play games of tag in the back yard, or have a race in the park. Take them to playgrounds where it’s safe to jump, climb, crawl, and just have fun. Your child takes their cues from you, so join in the game, and you should have no trouble getting them to exercise.

If your toddler is active, but you’re still worried that they’re chubby, don’t be. Children this age vary hugely in shape and size, and the last thing you need to be worrying about is his weight! As long as he or she is being a normal, active toddler, they should be just fine.
