Fathers’ rights groups are angry over a psychologist’s claims that overnight stays away from mum are damaging to their children’s development.

Leading parenting expert, Penelope Leach, is facing backlash over claims made in her recent book, Family Breakdown, in which she says that co-parented children who spend nights away from mum “are not only distressing, but also potentially damaging to the brain development and secure attachment of children under about four.”

However, the claims are being disputed by father’s right’s group, New Father’s 4 Justice, who say: “Leach’s advice sounds like absolute poison and potentially terribly damaging to children’s development. Overnight stays with fathers from as early an age as possible is crucial if children are to form strong attachment with both of their parents.”
