Selina Johnson from Lancashire has alleged that when her little boy started having a tantrum as she was trying to pay for her grocery shopping in a Morrisons store, the cashier smacked him.

Apparently when the little boy, who is four-years-old, started to kick up a fuss, the Morrisons’ cashier warned him that if he didn’t stop she would smack his legs. The little boy continued to misbehave and the cashier carried out her threat.

Selina was outraged by what had happened and complained to the store manager, as well as calling the police and complaining on Morrisons’ Facebook page saying:

“I know that this will probably be removed but I am going to post anyway.  Today I had the worst experience any mother/parent could have! Today one of YOUR staff SMACKED my 4 year olds legs! My poor little boy cried his little heart out and I have complained to the store manager and called the police who will be taking a statement and we will be pressing charges.  I will never step foot in one of your stores again.”

The cashier has since been fired, and police let her off after she made an apology.

While most people have sympathised with the mum, others have a different opinion on the incident. One man replied to Selina’s post on Morrisons’ Facebook page saying:

“Very disappointed with Morrisons, the recent media attention regarding the cashier who slapped a child was dismissed (as reported) by the media. Had the mother taken responsibility for the child and disciplined the child herself none of this would have happened. The cashier apologised and faced no police action so for Morrisons to take the action to sack her is way over the top. I will no longer be using any Morrisons store again now or in the future unless this employee is reinstated.”

Another man wrote:

“I have heard that you sacked this worker, I am glad that I am not alone in thinking that you were wrong to even think of sacking your cashier, it shows you have no respect for loyalty and throw people to the wolves when it may cost you publicity. The child was not blameless in this, neither was the mother, they are the ones who should be punished and instead of that you fine the innocent one. Well,  I stand by what I said earlier In the week, I will not use your shop again until you have the sense to reinstate this worker and I will convince people I know not to use your shop. I hope anyone reading this message shares my opinion and boycotts Morrisons until this is fixed the right way.”

Who do you think was to blame for this incident?
