Residents were shocked to discover hundreds of pills scattered around a children’s playground, at the Mercer Street apartment complex in Dublin.

One witness said that the pills had been “dropped like the trail of breadcrumbs from Hansel and Gretel.”

There was a total of 300 pills found strewn at the main gate to apartment complex.

Councillor Mannix Flynn then took the pills to a pharmacist for examination. The pharmacist later confirmed that the pills found at the playground were a strong brand of paracetamol, which are not usually available in Ireland.

“People say these are minor incidents, but that’s not the case. If you leave a child in a playground and that child says they’ve taken a tablet, the panic and alarm and the hours in hospital waiting for tests are devastating for a family.”

Cllr Flynn has now called on Dublin City Council to investigate the incident.

“Hundreds of these tablets were strewn across all over the playground area. It’s alarming. There are lots of children playing around the place. What’s next? Needles and other drug paraphernalia. It’s a constant thing out there. It’s not a rare occasion.”
