Police in Tennessee in the US have arrested a couple for knowingly leaving their 15-month-old child in a locked car while shopping.

The police received a call stating that a child was locked inside a car in a car park where they found it parked in direct sunlight with all of the windows up. Police also stated that temperatures inside the vehicle would have been up to 32 degrees.

Thankfully, the child was removed from the car after officers broke the windows and was brought to hospital in a stable condition.

The parents, Britney Zanetti (25) and Matthew Brown (28) were later arrested and charged with child abuse and child neglect.

Public Information Officer for Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has said: “They were aware they left the child in the car. Apparently, like most people, they were determined they wouldn’t be in the store long.”

Washington also said that it was not clear how long the 15-month-old toddler had actually been left in the car for.

The child is now in the custody of grandparents while the parents await a court hearing.

There are now urges from officials to call 911 immediately if a child is found to be locked in an unattended car.
