When Rob Devine heard that his four-year-old son Tristan had been hitting the girls in his class, he opted for a rather controversial way of showing the little boy he had done wrong.

Rob made Tristan stand on a busy street for about an hour with a sign that read “I hit little girls”.

Rob said that he had tried talking to the boy and taking away his games, but it didn’t work, so he felt something more had to be done. He claimed: “I want him to know you can’t go out and do these things and expect them to go away unnoticed. And expect me not to deal with it.”

However, Tristan’s mum Brittany, who is separated from Rob, was appalled by what he did:

“All [Tristan] knew was that he was hot, exhausted, and he wanted me to pick him up. And for me to take him away from that situation. (...) I feel degraded for him, I feel sad for him. Rob has had issues in his life, and no one put him out on the street and made him use a sign.”

Brittany has asked for child protective services to punish Rob, and has refused to let him see his son until he takes parenting classes.

Rob however, claims he was only doing what was right, and has no regrets:

“I’m not gonna lie, if this persists and this doesn’t work, then I’ll figure out something else. It’s trial and error, kids don’t come with an instruction manual.”
