Mary Ann Shipstone, who was yesterday shot in the head by her father at her home in Sussex, has today died from her injuries.
The girl, now confirmed to have been seven years old, had just arrived home from school yesterday when a man, believed to be her father, came to the house armed with a shotgun.
Mary was reportedly shot twice in the head, and her father then shot and killed himself in his car.
The incident happened yesterday at 4pm. Neighbours reported hearing a woman shouting, “He’s got a gun,” before two shots rang out.
Villagers in the Spring Hill area said that Mary’s father was “not supposed to know where she and her mother lived” and that he and Mary’s mother had been involved in a custody dispute.
