It's important that your child gets plenty of exercise after school and there are lots of ways for parents to make it fun:
  • Be active together. Go for a bike ride, take a walk after dinner or race each other in the garden. By doing this you are sending your child the message that exercise can actually be lots of fun!
  • Motivate him by explaining that keeping fit is important if he wants to be able to run faster while playing football or tag with friends.
  • Try to sneak in exercise when you get the chance, for instance try taking the stairs instead of the lift when you go shopping together. 
  • Keep a close eye on how much time your child spends on sedentary activities, such as watching TV or playing video games. Make sure that he spends the equal amount of time doing something physical.
