Whether you are looking forward to not having to change nappies anymore or are feeling a little apprehensive about starting the whole toilet training journey, a time will come when you just have to bite the bullet and go with it.
However, before you start, it is important that you make sure your little one is ready, otherwise it will much harder than it needs to be. Thankfully, there are a number of signs that indicate readiness that you can look out for.
They are steady on their feet
Your little one needs to be steady on their feet before you start your journey otherwise they will struggle to get to the toilet on time and will be more inclined to wet themselves.
They have been asking questions
Being curious about the toilet is a good indication that they are ready to use it.
They don't like wearing nappies
If your little one has started to pull off their nappy because it feels uncomfortable you will find it easier to get them to use the toilet.
Can follow direction
Your little one needs to be able to follow direction or at least understand when they are given a task like ‘let’s go to the toilet’.
Experiences dry periods
If your youngster is waking up after a nap with a dry nappy, it is a sign that their bladder is able to hold urine for periods of time.
They can pull up their own trousers
Being able to pull their pants up and down on their own without too much help from you is a good time to start toilet training.
They can stay dry for long periods of time during the day
If your little one manages to stay dry for at least two hours during the day, you know their bladder is able to hold a certain quantity of urine for long periods.
Has regular bowel movements
Once your child's bowel movements start to become fairly predictable it is a good time to start as you will have a fair idea when they need to use the toilet.
