When we think of dress up costumes for little girls, Disney princess outfits are usually one of the first things that spring to mind.

But lately, a new trend in dress-up has been sparked by the release of the new Wonder Woman movie.

The new movie starring Gal Gadot as Diana Prince is already inspiring a new generation of mini superheroines.

As the movie hit theatres, parents began sharing photos online of their little girls donning their capes and dressing up as Wonder Woman.

Even the tiniest girls can be superheroines!

One mum Jennifer Schwalbach and her daughter Harley Quinn Smith (yes, they really love their comics) posted a throwback of themselves in matching outfits.

Harley’s dad Kevin Smith wrote underneath their Instagram photo: "As you can tell, it's a movie the Smith family's been waiting to see.”

Harley who is now all grown up posted her own photo at the cinema wearing an iconic gold Wonder Woman headpiece.

She wrote alongside her photo: “All I could think about the whole movie was how excited I was for young girls to see it and feel represented in such a powerful way. Thank you @gal_gadot for letting it be known that girls can be heroes too.I hope this movie opens the door for many more female-driven comic films to be made in the very near future.”

Throwbacks were a common theme with Suicide Squad actress Viola Davis posting a photo of her daughter Genesis as a toddler dressed as Wonder Woman, explaining the little girl had been a Wonder Woman fan for years.

Genesis who is now seven was excited to see her favourite heroine in the cinema at last. "We're ready!" Viola captioned the snap.

Many parents posted photos of their little Wonder Women posing alongside a poster or a cardboard cutout of their favourite heroine.

Dad Brian Bruss posted an adorable photo of his tiny daughter dressed as Wonder Woman posing under a poster and she is possibly the cutest Wonder Woman yet.
