The Easter holidays can be testing times for parents. The kids are full of energy and the prospect of Easter eggs sends them into a frenzy.

Planning Easter themed games and activities is one way to keep them amused and these are some things you can do indoors and outdoors over the long weekend.

These are seven fun family activities that the kids will love – thank us later.

1. Easter egg hunt

You can either host a simple one in your back yard or find an egg hunt event on in your neighbourhood.

Egg hunt events can be pricey so if you’re short on cash why not set up your own one at home? You can use mini eggs if there are lots of kids taking part.

The kids will love solving the clues and getting a tasty reward at the end. Plus they’ll use up loads of energy running around.

Having an adult dress up as The Easter Bunny will amuse them no end also.

2. Painting eggs

This a super simple one which even toddlers can enjoy and all you need is some hard-boiled eggs, paint and paintbrushes.

Use glitter pens to add gold and silver accents to the eggs and you can use them as a centerpiece for the table on Easter Sunday.

3. Make an Easter wreath

The kids will enjoy using their creative skills to make you a nice Easter decoration.

If you have a garden or live in the country, get the kids to go out and bring back some flowers, leaves and fronds which you can help them twist around a wire base.

Try gluing on plastic coloured eggs and make chicks out of yellow felt and stick plastic eyes onto them.

4. Make Easter treats

Chocolate nests are a great Easter treat and kids will love the novelty factor. The recipe is really simple too and you don’t even need to use the oven.

Add 100g of butter, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 50g milk chocolate buttons and 75g of golden syrup in a bowl. Microwave on high for 1.5mins and mix together.

Crumble 4 Shredded Wheat over the bowl and mix with rest of ingredients.

Place a generous spoonful in each of 12 bun case (the nests).Press the centre of each nest down slightly to form a dip and place 3 chocolate mini eggs in each dip.

Chill for 30mins.

5. Egg and spoon race

This is always hilarious and really simple. All you need is hardboiled eggs and soup spoons and line the kids up to race each other.

The first one to make it over the finish line without dropping their egg wins.

6. Go a pet farm

Easter is a great time to get out and explore nature.

Kids will love learning about the animals and getting to feed a lamb or pet a bunny.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to get loads of cute photos which you can print and frame at home.

7. Play Bunny Bunny Rabbit.

This is just an Easter twist on the popular Duck Duck Goose game. Get the kids to sit down in a circle and have one of them be “it” and walk around tapping the others on the head.

They must say “bunny” to each person they tap until they want to say “rabbit”.

The “rabbit” and the other child must then hop all the way around the circle and whoever gets there first gets the spot, while the other becomes “it.”
