Little Sophie Beer and her mum Nicola were left devastated when nobody showed up to the little girl’s seventh birthday party.

Nicola, 47, told Wales Online that she had sent out 40 invitations but only one girl showed up to drop off a present and leave again. Sophie was left in tears on her big day when she realised her friends hadn't turned up.

Nicola said: “It was devastating for my daughter.

“She was so excited about having a birthday party and inviting all her school friends.

“It was almost more than I could take seeing her alone at her party table.

“We put up banners and had lots of delicious food and a disco.”

The party took place during the busy Easter holidays but Nicola was annoyed that none of the parents had gotten in touch to say they couldn’t make it.

“No one messaged me to say they couldn’t come. I understand people have busy lives but I really just couldn’t believe it on the day.”

It seemed as though Sophie’s birthday would be completely ruined but then a fairy godmother in the shape of local cake maker Laura Shire stepped.

Laura had heard what had happened on Facebook and decided she had to do something to save the day. She had made a cake for the first party and was upset that no-one had been there to eat it.

With the help of some other locals, they set about organising a second party for Sophie. Laura even made a special Cinderella castle cake for the little girl to compensate for her ruined party.

This time around, the party was a great success with 50 children turning up.

The second party was a complete surprise for Sophie and it wasn’t until they turned up at the venue that Sophie realised what was going on.

Nicola said: “At first when we arrived she didn’t realise it was her party! It took about 15 minutes for it to sink in that it was all for her.

“Around 50 children turned up from all over the place - people were so kind.

“Local supermarkets provided all the food, we had a bouncy castle, face painting and a local DJ offered his services all for free.

“I was so happy to see Sophie have such a wonderful day after such horrible disappointment at her first party.”

Thanks to the close-knit local community, the little girl had a wonderful birthday party to remember.
