Parents are not impressed at a school in Nottinghampshire banning them from attending their children’s sports day.

The Head of Governors, Nick Ydlibi spoke about the ban, saying: “We feel that due to the rise in pupils it would be extremely difficult to guarantee the safety of our children at an outdoor event with open gates.”

However, many parents are incensed with the news, parent Manda Wilkinson, was outraged that she wouldn’t be able to see her son, Logan, at his sport’s day: “I find it disgusting that the school aren’t giving us the choice over whether we want to come or not. Are they going to stop us watching the Christmas plays next?”

Another parent, David Elliot, said he was told that the ban was put in place for fear of crushing: “When I asked what the school was afraid might happen, she said there was a potential for a crush. I said ‘What, like Hillsborough?’ sort of as a joke, and she said, ‘Yes.’”
