Our schools are supposed to promote a happy and healthy lifestyle for our kids, especially the little ones, and so we’re not surprised by the reaction to one school’s harsh new lunch policy.

A cafeteria worker has quit her job at a school in the US after management introduced a new policy that prohibits certain children from receiving a hot meal.

Stacy Koltiska took to Facebook to blast the new policy implemented at Wylandville Elementary School, branding it ‘sickening’.

The lunch service at the school operates via a card system, whereby an amount is debited from the card each time the child gets served a hot meal. Where the child owes money, the amount is added to the card to be cleared.

In her post, Stacy revealed that the new rule prohibits any child with $25 or more on their card from receiving a hot meal. The lunch staff are required to give the child a sandwich instead.

“What you don’t know is that they are being given one piece of cheese on bread. This isn’t even being toasted. Yet they are still being charged the FULL PRICE of a HOT LUNCH that is being DENIED to them,” Stacy wrote.

She went on to recall a horrible moment when she had to actually take a hot meal back from a little boy (a first grader, which means he was between six and seven years old).

“I will never forget the look on his face, and then his eyes welled up with tears. I was going to resign on Monday but my mother passed away on Sunday so I forgot about it until yesterday when it happened again. I had the same sick feeling, so today I resigned,” she added.

Stacy revealed that the massive amount of food that gets thrown out from the cafeteria on a daily basis just makes the new rule even more insulting.

She went on to call on parents upset by the rule to express their feelings in an email to the local superintendent of schools.
