When your child gets sick, it is fairly safe to say you have to put your life on hold - even if it's just a 48-hour bug.

You have to take the days off work (shudders) and spend your time looking after the most important thing in your life.

First time dealing with a sick bub? Well, here's what you should expect...

Good luck.

1. The initial panic.

'Oh sweet divine Jesus my child has the plague!' is a thought that goes through all of our minds when our little one gets sick. 'I am a bad Mother' also makes an appearance, but it is not your fault, we promise.

2. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

Okay, so your child is sick - you got this. The key is to stock up on anything you may need. Runny nose? Gentle tissues. Dehydration? Water (loads of it!) Fever? Easofen for Children Strawberry oral suspension is your man.

3. Gross...

You don't know the meaning of true love until your precious little bub gets sick. You find yourself mopping up stuff that ten years ago would have repulsed you. Snot, wee, poo and God knows what else will probably be coming out of them at an alarming rate. Thank goodness they're cute.

4. 'I want my Mommy'

Remember when you were sick as a kid, and ALL you wanted was your Mum? Yeah, well that never actually goes away. As soon as the chaos of sickness ascends on your little ones, you will instinctively want your Mum. However, you are now the Mum, so prepare to be needed by your bubs in a major way.

5. Being SURE it is over, but then it isn't.

You know that saying 'the calm before the storm'? Well, it is so relevant when it comes to you child's sickness. There will come a stage where they seem like they're better - you may even send them back to school for a day. Big mistake. They'll come back to you, still sick, and you may have to start from stage one, again.

6. Every noise sparks fear.

You will probably find yourself awake ALL night, by their bedside, attentively listening to their breathing. So much as a hiccup, and you'll probably freak out and dial 999. Better safe than sorry, right?

7. Peppa bloody PIG.

So many first time Mums will think 'great, I've a few days off to mind the little one. I'll binge-watch Downton Abbey.' We hate to break it to you, but you will spend the length of your child's illness watching Peppa. All.day.long.

8. Getting sick yourself the moment they are better.

FINALLY, you can see the light. Their sniffles have stopped, the goo is no more...

However, all of a sudden, you feel like crap. Been there, friend. Sadly, whatever grossness your little one had, you have caught, so be prepared to get into bed and sleep it off. You need it!

9. The cleanup.

No, that is not snow on my kitchen floor. It is a layer of tissues that has built up over the last few days. Once the sickness starts to fade - the cold face of reality sets in. Your house is probably a mess, so now you have to start cleaning. Fling on some music, and get to work!

10. Sweet relief.

Okay, the plague has passed. Your little one is healthy, and so are you. Congrats - you weathered the storm!
