We love checking out Instagram at this time of the year, drooling over beautiful fall-inspired décor.

One of our favourite trends to emerge over the past few years, just in time for Halloween, is the teal pumpkin.

No doubt you have noticed beautiful teal-coloured pumpkins all over your social media feeds, particularly from the US – but do you know the heart-warming story behind them?

The idea all began with Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) in the States, three years ago.

Noticing that many children with allergies may feel left out while trick-or-treating during Halloween, the team launched the Teal Pumpkin Project.

As part of the project, the team came up with the idea of putting teal-coloured pumpkins outside of houses that had non-food treats – such as inexpensive toys – for little ones suffering from allergies.

This way, trick-or-treaters will know which houses to go to, to ensure they get to take home some safe swag!

The Teal Pumpkin Project has become somewhat of a movement, however; growing to a point where, today, it stands for allergy awareness not only in the States but around the world.

With social media now such an integral part of the project, the idea has spread around the world – and now more and more households are making special arrangements for children suffering from allergies.

Indeed, as you can see from all of these sweet posts, thousands of people are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project!

We absolutely LOVE this idea – allergies are such a serious and widespread issue, and it’s so important to ensure that all of our children are included in the Halloween festivities.

Will you be putting a teal pumpkin outside of your house this year? Let us know how you will be helping out with this very worthy cause!
