If you have seen the hashtag ‘Why Tru?’ trending, there is a very important reason why.

Massachusetts-based mum Denise Robinson launched the hashtag last week, in a bid to get answers after her young daughter’s head was shaved at day care without her permission.

Tru, who is seven years old, has emotional issues, for which she attends the Little Heroes Group Home.

Denise was left horrified and confused last week when, after a day at the home, Tru came back with a shaved head. She had been sporting long locks when she left the house.

A shocked Denise took to Facebook to vent her frustration, sharing before and after photos of Tru, the caption reading: “Before and after her hair is gone…Tru has a fade. We did not give anyone permission to do this!”

As you can imagine, Denise’s social media post attracted a lot of attention. And while she initially said she had no idea as to why Tru’s head was shaved, a spokesperson for the Little Heroes Group Home said it was due to ‘hygiene’ reasons.

“The programme employs a diverse staff that is attentive to the needs of all children,” a statement read.

“Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene.”

Denise hit back at the explanation in an interview with NBC Boston, however.

“There was no hygienic reason for them to shave my child’s head,” she insisted.

“There was no head lice. There were no bed bugs. There was no what I refer to as ‘rasta locks’ going on.

“Her hair was two pony tails on the side on Saturday, and it was braided in the ponytails – and there was nothing wrong.”

While management at the home are said to be reviewing the incident, it is not yet clear whether the issue will be taken to a higher authority.
