Children will only be interested in certain kinds of movies. Do not try to get them to sit through an adult-orientated movie, even if there is a big screen. The plot can be too complicated and the dialogue will not be interesting at all. Some movies, such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy might be visually interesting for children, due to the special effects, but the content may be disturbing or too mature for your child to handle.
If you don't have a large screen television at home, or powerful sound system, then the big screen and high-volume surround sound might be overwhelming for your child. Always research movies before going to see them with your child. Check the ratings and find out what content is present. Speak to other parents about how their children enjoyed a particular film. Movie sequels are quite formulaic and if your child enjoyed the first instalments of the story, then the follow-ups should be appropriate.
