My toddler keeps running away from me. How can I teach her to stay close?

Unfortunately, while your child is a toddler, and while she is going through the phase of running away, there’s little you can do to teach her that it’s safer to stay near to mummy.

The only way to ensure that your child stays near you, where it is safe, is to make sure that she does. That means keeping her strapped into a pram, or using a child harness. A baby carrier is another idea, but since toddlers at this age can be heavy, you might find that it’s only suitable for short distances!

Your child does not understand that it’s only safe when she’s near mummy, so you need to make sure that she’s always secure, even if you’re only going to be a moment. If you want to give her freedom, take her to a park or another child safe environment, and let her play there, but the rest of the time, you need to ensure that she’s strapped in!
