An investigation continues this morning following the discovery of two-year-old Hassan Khan's body at an apartment complex in Ballybrack, south Dublin yesterday.

Hassan's mother, Hazel Waters, was arrested at the scene and is being held by Gardaí for questioning.

The toddler died from a fatal neck wound after he was stabbed once with a sharp object, believed to be a pair of scissors. Gardaí were alerted around 2pm.

Just last month, a nationwide CRI (Child Rescue Ireland) Alert was launched for Hassan, after he and his father Saleem Khan were reported missing from Ballybrack village. They were found together an hour later and Gardaí said at the time that Hassan was "safe and well."

Police are not searching for anyone else in assocation with the killing, and last night broke the tragic news to Mr. Khan, who is in his sixties.
