Little girls grow up so fast that it's easy to wake up one morning thinking "where did the time go?".

And while our little ones will learn new things each and every day, some more important than others, it is vital they never forget the following ten things:

1. That beauty is only skin deep

No matter how much you try to protect your little one from bad role models or the media’s perception of beauty, you won’t be able to shield them forever. But you can teach them that beauty is only skin deep and that your character is more important than your appearance.

2. That boys aren’t better

Because they’re not! Men and women are created equal - never let your daughter forget that.

3. That no job is too ‘manly’

Sadly, gender stereotypes are still evident these days, especially in terms of career choices. So it is important your daughter never forgets that they can do whatever they want and be whoever they want to be when they grow up.

4.  That they can wear what they feel comfortable in

Tracksuit, ballgown, tiny shorts or a onesie, make sure your child knows that they can wear what they want with confidence – the more individual the better.

5. That money doesn’t grow on trees

Because it doesn’t! Make sure your child understands that they need to work hard to get things they like. If your daughter understands and appreciates money from an early age it will serve them well in the future.

6. The world is their oyster

They can be anyone and go anywhere because the world is literally their oyster.

7. To say ‘thank you’ when given a compliment

It is easy to dismiss a compliment, making it seem less than what it is, but it is important your child learns to receive them well and to say ‘thank you’. Never let her forget this.

8. To take risks

Life is for living so encourage your child to take risks and do things that scare them!

9. To embrace who they are

If your child embraces who they are now, then criticism and judgements from others will literally be like water off a duck’s back in the future.

10. That being fit and healthy will always be more important than size

Your child should know that it’s about being fit and healthy and not being a certain size.
