We ask our kids questions about their day, enquire about their friends, hug and kiss them constantly, but are we really connecting with them?

Life can get in the way and many mums can feel that they have simply talked at rather than to their kids, and haven't really connected with them.

Here are ten fun ways to connect with your child easily:

1. High fives

You connect with your child by touching them and while hugs are always great, a high five is both positive and enthusiastic.

2. Eating at the table

There are rare times when we spend time just being together without the distraction of the TV or your phone, but the dinner table is one of them.

3. Messages in their lunchbox

Let your little one know that you are thinking about them by leaving a little note or funny drawing in their lunchbox each day.

4. Asking their opinion

Asking your child’s opinion on something will help them feel a lot more connected to you. It not only helps to strengthen your bond but it also shows them that you respect them.

5. Play with them

Get down on the floor and play with your little one. Whether it’s with a jigsaw, Lego or using your imagination by getting down to their level and showing an interest you will instantly feel connected.

6. Read with them

A great way to cuddle and snuggle with each other – reading is a relaxing time that stimulates and ignites the imagination.

7. Listen to them

It is easy to ask a question, but with all of us leading extremely busy lives it’s not as easy to listen to their response.

8. Be interested in their lives

Show an interest in their likes and dislikes and get to know their friends and passions. You will feel like you know them better and they’ll show an interest in your life.

9. Get them to teach you something

Get your little one to teach you how to play an instrument or a skill that they have mastered. Not only will you feel a little closer but you’ll also learn something new.

10. Laugh with them

Tell each other jokes, tickle and play with them – laughter is a great way to connect.
