We all know too well that it can be difficult to keep our little ones busy during the summer months ahead. While it can be tempting to resort to dvds and television programme marathons, the summer time can be great opportunity to exercise our little one’s brain activity. Here are some great activities to help keep your little one busy as well as educated this summer.

Reading
Why not give your little one a head start before heading to school by getting them to read some of their favourite books. Your little one can try and sound out some letters intially when it comes to their bedtime reading and if you have some time, you could even some introduce phonetics and letters to them. Make sure you don’t push too many new letters on your little one though, as you don’t want to turn them off reading either.

Learn more about their area
If the sun does make an appearance this summer, why not use the good weather as an opportunity to teach your little one about their local area. Whether it’s taking your little one for walks to see popular sites or meeting their neighbours for the first time, it’s important that your child is aware of their own area. You can make it even more fun for your little one by creating an activity book for them - it can be full of maps, games and fun facts about their area.

Museum trips
Whether you’re going on holiday or staying home for the summer, make sure to take your little one to your nearest museum. The summer is a prime opportunity for this educational activity as most museums usually have great deals catered towards families as well as fun activities to make the trip a little more interesting.

Writing
Like with reading why not let your tot have a go at the writing. Draw some simple letters on paper and encourage them to have a go at copying them. If you take these gradual steps, who knows your little one may be even able to form their own words by the end of the summer.

Science Experiments
There are plenty of science experiments you can do with your preschooler, that are not only fun but educational too. Your tot can see simple chemical reactions and even if they don’t fully understand what’s going on they can still have hours of fun.

Educational technology
While we don’t want our children spending too much time on technology during the long summer months, there are plenty of fun games, programmes and even apps that can be great to keep your little busy as well. It can be great for those long road trips and even more as a relaxant after a busy day of activities.
