Five-year-old Romeo Clarke was banned from his local playgroup in Rugby, in the United Kingdom for choosing to wear a pink sparkly dress.

Romeo’s mother, Georgina said she was approached by the leader of Rugby Christian Fellowship Church play group to discuss her son’s dress.

"The lady came over to me and said they had a talk and decided he's no longer allowed to wear princess dresses there".

The group leader said that Romeo’s dress confuses other children, because they "don't know whether to call him a girl or boy".

But Georgina said she spoke to the other parents in the group, where neither of them nor their children expressed any concerns about her son’s attire.

Georgina went onto to defend her son’s dress choice: “He’s just a boy who loves dresses.”

But Bex Venabes who is in charge of the church group, insists it’s important that children stick to the dress code.

"… wear clothing of the gender stated on his registration form, which states male. This request is no different from what is asked by his school, where he wears a boy's uniform."

However, since Georgina went public with Romeo’s story, many have taken Romeo’s side saying he should be entitled to wear what he wants.
