Why is my primary school child talking back?

When you tell your child that it’s time for bed and all you hear back is, “You’re stupid!” Does this mean that you have years ahead of you of being back-chatted?

The good news is that it doesn’t always mean this. When a child is talking back, what it really means is she’s expressing anger, frustration, fear or hurt.

It’s tempting to simply punish her for her poor behaviour but the best thing you can do is try and get to the bottom of what’s really upsetting her and teach her a much more acceptable way of dealing with her feelings.
