Calcium is needed to ensure your child’s good health and development. Calcium is needed to build strong bones and teeth, promote nerve and muscle function, help blood to clot and also activate enzymes that convert food into energy.
How much calcium does your child need?
Ages 1 to 3 years: 500 milligrams (mg) per day
Ages 4 to 8 years: 800 mg per day
Ages 9 to 18 years: 1300 mg per day
It’s not essential that your child gets the recommended daily amount of calcium every day. Instead, aim for that amount as an average over the course of a few days.
