Certain grains like wheat, barley, rye, rice and oats, are made up of three parts: the endosperm, the bran and the germ. As the name suggests, wholegrain foods are ones that contain all three parts of the grain. Together, these parts work to provide a rich source of dietary fibre, ‘healthy’ fats, B vitamins and vitamin E. Important nutrients that are essential to good health. Out of the many ways to enjoy all of the health benefits of wholegrains, wholegrain cereals are a convenient and nourishing choice.
However, not all wholegrain foods are necessarily high in fibre. To check, read the nutrition label and if the food has 3g/fibre per 100g it is considered a “source of fibre”. If it has 6g of fibre/100g of food then it is a “high fibre food”.
Did you know, fortunately, Kellogg’s has a number of cereals that are made with wholegrains, including Bran Flakes, Optivita, Sultana Bran, Raisin Wheats, Frosted Wheats, Just Right, Honey Loops and Honey Pops, Fruit ‘n’ Fibre, Start, Mini Max Original and Mini Max Chocolate. So you have more ways to give your family fibre and wholegrain that they need, together with the great Kellogg’s taste they love. When buying whole grain foods, it’s important to make sure that it is labelled whole grain or whole meal.
