Pesto Christmas tree
An impressive yet easy appetiser that your guests will love.
2 sheets of puff pastry
1 jar of pesto
100g grated parmesan
1 egg yolk
Sesame seeds and poppy seeds to taste
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Unroll one puff pastry sheet and spread with pesto, then scatter with parmesan. Unroll the second puff pastry sheet and cover the first one.
Cut the shape of a Christmas tree and cut thin strips to create the branches. Twist the strips. With the leftover pastry, you can make stars and put one at the top of the tree. Add a bit of water to the egg yolk and brush the Christmas tree with it. Sprinkle with some sesame seeds and poppy seeds.
Bake for about 20 minutes or until the pastry is cooked. Serve warm or cold.
