The Department of Education and Skills has appointed Educate Together as patron to five new secondary schools in Ireland.

Due to open between 2015 and 2016, these second-level schools will be located in Cork, Celbridge, North Wicklow, and Balbriggan and Ballinteer in Dublin.

They plan to provide a community that will nurture each student’s academic potential while attending to their personal needs throughout their school year.

This approach aims to move away from the traditional way of teaching and rather than “teaching to the test” they will put more emphasis on the actual learner.

Students in an Educate Together National School will develop skills in areas such as leadership and teamwork. They will also learn more about communication and critical thinking.

Educate Together CEO Paul Rowe: “Well done to the start-up groups who have been working hard to ensure their children can access their preferred model of education. We look forward to working with the local community, local authorities and the Department to make sure these schools open as efficiently as possible. Today represents a really positive step in our work to give parents in Ireland a choice of school type for their children’s education.”
