Weight problems, finances and debt are all at a high right now, so it’s no surprise that people are feeling particularly down around this time of year.

Research shows that today, also known as Blue Monday, is supposedly the worse day of the year. For your little ones, it may mean that fail resolutions for the new year are starting to take it's toll. For couples, today is the most popular day for starting divorce proceedings. This means that divorce lawyers will be very busy from the month of January,

Founder of Blue Monday, Cliff Arnall, initially thought that the sudden drop in mood would last a full week.He calculated the date by looking at the weather conditions, debt levels, and the number of days that had elapsed since overindulging during the Christmas holidays.

However, over the past couple of years, new researchers analysed more than 2 million tweets and found that young tweeters are particularly negative on this day. They are five times more likely to tweet something negative on Blue Monday than on any other day this year.

Ruth Sutherland, chief executive of a relationship counselling site, said:“New Year is a time many of us assess how life is going and this can make people think about how relationships are faring.”

The good news is, since many people are going through similar emotions, there's a chance that you're not facing this alone. It would be useful to stay positive and keep smiling. Just keep in mind that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
