Week 1

So I headed out on Saturday morning as I always do for our weekly shop but this week I headed to Lidl in Stillorgan. I probably had the same preconceived ideas everyone but I was pleasantly surprised.

The first thing I noticed was that there was no shortage of parking and no queuing at the checkout. This is great when you are used to checking out taking at least 10 minutes of your busy Saturday morning!

Did I get everything on my 'list'?

Yes and no! I certainly got all of the essentials along with a couple of treats that I wouldn't normally buy (e.g. I didn't resist the aroma of the bakery and also treated the family to some yummy steaks). I was definitely impressed by the range and quality of the fruit and veg and I definitely saved on my weekly essentials like blueberries (a favourite of my little man!) and melons. I also definitely saved on proteins like chicken, steak and smoked salmon and was really impressed by the range of Polish options, which won me brownie points with the big man in our house! I didn't manage to get turkey sausages and our favourite yoghurt drinks but they were the only two things I would normally buy that I couldn't get. I was also impressed with the range of food available particularly in the bakery, fresh meat, fruit and veg and cheeses. Our favourite buy of the week was the cob loaf, I'll have to get two of them next week!

Did I save money?

Well our weekly shop would normally be €130 - €140 and this week I spent €96 and that's with a good few 'treats' like the steaks that we wouldn't normally have.

Overall I am very impressed with the range of items, the price and the lack of queues and I look forward to shopping in Lidl again next week.
