Life-threatening drinking game goes viral
The game known as ‘nek nominations,’ involves someone being filmed while downing an alcoholic beverage in one go and then nominating a friend to do the same on camera.
This drinking game has gone viral and since then, people have lost their lives from taking part in the challenge.
The Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society (MEAS) says that drinking alcohol too quickly is already dangerous, so the results of a game like this can only be fatal.
Chief executive Fionnuala Sheehan said: “I am asking young people thinking of participating in this game to consider both the risk to their own health and also if they would really want to be the nominator of a friend who then takes up their challenge and, in doing so, harms themselves”.
This internet craze is believed to be the cause of a death in Carlow as well as Dublin. The Gardaí are investigating whether these two young men had been taking part in the game before being pronounced dead.
Parents are advised to keep a close eye on their teens to ensure they're not being pressured to take part in the game.
