Smyths, a much-loved store, has recently launched a new Savings Card that will allow customers to top up on an in-store card. They can top-up bit by bit and then later use it to pay for their purchases.
A spokesman for Smyths, said that this scheme only started a few weeks ago, but the response has been so good that they expect a huge increase over the next year.
Banba Toymaster on Mary Street in Dublin also offers a similar scheme. It’s Christmas Club allows parents to pay a deposit of 25% on a toy, which is held for them until the full payment is made in instalments.
According to the Central Statistics Office, Irish people spend at least €340m a year in toy stored alone making Irish parents the most generous in Europe.
Even though times are tough, mums and dads still want to go the extra mile for their little ones and schemes like this mean they'll have a little less to worry about when Christmas rolls back around.
