Our family stay at Liss Ard Estate

Over the October mid-term, my family and I got to spend a wonderful two days in Liss Ard Estate. We travelled down the long winding drive-way to arrive at the beautiful house and grounds of Liss Ard Estate.  Upon our arrival, we were told that they had taken every effort to make the estate feel like a home away from home for all their guests. We were invited to make use of the selection of wellington boots and wax jackets just inside the main door for traipsing around the woodland grounds. There were torches, bike helmets, and hats all available for guests to use. We were also introduced to the two ponies and chickens that had their home behind the Garden Mews accommodation where we were staying. Our accommodation was very comfortable, although with two fold-down beds we were under a bit of pressure for floor space. There was a night light for each of my girls to plug-in next to their bed, which they loved and we all loved to look out at the views of the estate from our upstairs window each morning and to check if the ponies woken up yet!

We ate our dinners and breakfast at Liss Ard during our stay and it really was a treat. For breakfast, there was a great choice of local produce, freshly baked scones and the best porridge I’ve ever tasted. We enjoyed our evening meals together and after the girls had finished their meals they were keen to join the activities in the kid’s club.  The kid’s club was just downstairs from the dining room meaning that they were never too far from us and it gave us a chance to sit in the lounge with our after-dinner coffees.  On our first morning there we had planned to make a walk about the estate as a family, however once our girls heard that there was a scavenger hunt happening with the kid’s club their parents were soon forgotten about.  We collected them a couple of hours later with an assortment of leaves, branches and paintings made using the items collected.  We used the time to take a boat out on the lake and enjoy the autumn sunshine. It was a great break for our family, and we left wishing we could stay for longer. The staff were very welcoming and made every effort to make sure we enjoyed our break. The kid’s club was fantastic, which made the trip extra special for our children. I would definitely recommend a stay at Liss Ard, and I’m already looking forward to planning another trip there!
