With unrealistic portrayals from the media of what men and women should look like, a lot of girls feel pressured to look a certain way.

However, a new doll created by Nickolay Lamm, was recently made, based on measurements of the average 19-year-old female in American.

The Lammily doll, which was created to promote positive body image in girls, is slightly bigger than a regular Barbie doll and has less makeup.

Mr Lamm made a prototype of the plastic figurine last summer and is now hopes to bring it to the market. After he uploaded a video of the doll on his website, he raised over $28,000 in just 24 hours.

“I wanted to show that average is beautiful. Rather than waiting for change to happen, let's be the change,” said the artist.

Feedback from the public has been very positive and one person even said the doll looked like her:

“Awe this is awesome. [The Lammily doll] looks just like me! Thank you for making me feel beautiful!”

And another added: “Thank God someone finally created an 'average Barbie' ... I love it! I hope by the time i have kids myself Lammily will have taken over the market.”

We hope that this portrayal of women will help girls develop more body confidence.
