Smartphone app means babies can take their own selfies

The Baby Selfie app, created by software developer and father Matthew Pegula, allows tiny tots to become part of the emerging selfie trend.
The app, which attracts a baby’s attention with fun customisable sounds, detects their presence and takes a snap of them once the smartphone is picked up.
“Baby Selfie started out as a much more ambitious project that was going to try to determine when a baby was smiling, and report back to parents what the baby liked,” said Matthew.
But after some research, he quickly realised that he would rather work on a much simpler idea of the app, which, turned out surprisingly well.
The app can be downloaded with any Smartphone with a front-facing camera and once a baby touches the screen, the Baby Selfie automatically saves the snap to the phone’s gallery.
Pegula initially thought that the idea would get him a lot of negative criticism, so he made it clear that it is simply a hobby for him rather than an investment:
“I think it’s good because it engages parents and babies with the screen, it’s not really something where you can park your kid in front of it and walk away.”
