Life Style Sports has launched a three-year title sponsorship deal with Bootcamp Ireland, Ireland’s biggest bootcamp. Renowned for their 6 week military style fitness classes, I had heard that their bootcamp classes are a great way for mums to get fit and lose some weight. So, given that I'm carrying around an extra stone post two babies, when I was asked if I’d like to take part in 6 weeks of bootcamp training and to be kitted out in new gear from Life Style Sports, I naturally stepped up.

First stop, was Life Style Sports in Dundrum Town Centre. When I arrived I met a seriously nice guy called Leigh who looked after me while I shopped – he immediately offered to talk me through my gear options and that was before I told him I was there at the behest of the marketing manager. Let’s be honest, I’m not a sports shop fanatic but am now a convert because (a) the range is seriously good and (b) they have clothes that hide your muffin top AND make you look good as you exercise. A win win – n’est pas?

He patiently talked me through my outfit options including styles, colours and looks. Who would have thought there was so much to sports wear? But there is and Life Style Sports seem to have a depth of range that would cool the ardour of any sports fanatic or normal mum like me.

I opted for the following gear:
  • Long legged Nike bottoms (equals no leg prep – if you don’t know what that means, don’t ask) – colour black. These bottoms are brilliant at hiding the muffin top you are trying to lose. It got me thinking, did I really need to do bootcamp? Price €48
  • Matching Nike T-shirt – I opted for matching black T-shirt. Price €24.99
  • Nike Sports Bra – no subject was off limits as Leigh took me through my bra options. Colour here – eh – black of course. Price €24.99
  • ASICS Runners – a fabulous pair of pink, black and white runners. When faced with a wall of runners, I went for colour and instantly fell in love with my new ASICS. They were the top of the range runners (which means they were pricey) and I did offer to put them back and chose another pair but Leigh succumbed to my charms and didn’t put up too much of a fight. (Actually he agreed straight away but I like to think I worked my muffin top magic on him). Price (gulp) €180. It should be said Life Style Sports have runners from €50 so there really is something for everyone and when it comes to training, bad runners = constant problems not only with your feet but also your knees and hips.
So all kitted out compliments of Life Style Sports, I registered on Boot Camp Ireland. This was the easiest part of the exercise – it’s all online and you can select and pay for your appropriate camp across Ireland. Sessions generally take place in the evening but there are some mummy sessions after the school run in the morning so it’s worth figuring out which session suits you best.

I booked my first session for a Wednesday night - not too early in the week and not too late either. I also wanted to get a bit of exercise in before taking the bootcamp plunge. You would think that I would have just left starting the exercise until my first night, but in true cleaning the house before the cleaning lady comes, I did two runs in my new runners - just to break them in don’t you know. The house may not be sparkling but my new pink runners certainly are.

If you've been struggling for inspiration to lose weight or to get fit you could do alot worse than getting yourself to a few bootcamp classes and if your budget allows, getting down to your local Life Style Sports store to pick yourself up a few nice things to wear as you do it. I'm now 3 weeks into bootcamp and I've completely settled in. I no longer feel like the awkward girl down the back of the class and I can definitely feel my clothes getting loser as the pounds are dropping. I might even have to take a trip back to Life Style Sports to buy some of those "cool girl" sports clothes yet.
