Is her surname the sole reason for all the negativity?

So, what exactly has Kim Kardashian done wrong here?

Ever since the mum-of-one announced she was expecting her second child mere days ago, she’s been exposed to extensive media ridicule, much of which has little grounding in reality.

Jokes and suggestions that childbirth is the only hard labour she’s ever experienced fell flat as I took a moment to consider the intense criticism levelled at the star on an almost daily basis.

Maybe I’m overly sensitive, but that doesn’t seem pain-free to me.

With members of the public using social media as a platform to deride the 34-year-old reality star and her impending arrival, you’d almost wonder if they know something the rest of us don’t.

I mean really, what am I missing here?

Why do other celebrities apparently deserve our congratulations when they announce they’re about to become parents, but Kim and Kanye only invite ridicule?

Yes, he’s egotistical almost to the point of hilarity and her career was born of a very questionable home movie, but what does this have to do with their capabilities as parents?

If you peel back the layers, ignore her famous surname and look beyond her media persona, Kim is a young woman who struggled through a very difficult first pregnancy, spent months fending off criticism about her appearance as she carried her first child and then faced intense scrutiny as she navigated her way through motherhood for the first time.

I’ll tell you something for nothing, it’s certainly not something I could do twice.

And yet here’s Kim, happy and willing to go through it all again.

What does this tell you?

It tells me that her desire to become a mother takes precedence over everything else in her life.

Don't get me wrong, I’m under no illusions here. I understand that much of Kim’s career relies on her inflated sense of self, her flawless appearance and her ability to charm the public, and yet despite the fact that pregnancy appears to put the kybosh on most of those things, still she forged ahead and joyously announced her news.

Why?

Because she wants to be a mum again and from where I’m standing she’s already a very good one, so why the negativity?
