Old friends and new mischief

Last week I took advantage of having the car for the week while my husband was away for a few days for work. I was so excited to be able to get out driving and planned day trips to visit family and friends.

On Thursday I visited a great friend of mine in Longford and her two beautiful daughters. I was really looking forward to seeing the three of them and finally meeting her youngest.

When we arrived my son, who is three, was a little shy, instead wanting hugs and cuddles from me. Once my friend’s daughter who is four got him some cars he soon settled into playing and colouring with her.

As the morning and afternoon progressed, my friend and I relaxed over a cuppa and had good chat as our children played happily together. I was feeling quite relaxed I must say and happy – happy that I was out catching up with a good friend and also happy to see how well our kids were playing together. I couldn’t help but think of the fun days that were ahead for us all.

Not long after lunch, my daughter became a little cranky. All of the playing had caught up on her and she was due a nap. While I tried to rock her asleep it wasn’t working so I had to cut our visit short so she could sleep in the car on our way home.

I called my son to help tidy up the toys and to fetch his shoes. As I helped him put his shoes on, I could only see one. I asked him where the other shoe was, but no response. He was too busy laughing and running around with his pal!

The search began, as my friend and I tried to see if we could find the missing shoe. We searched every room, toy boxes and behind furniture but no sign. All I kept thinking was how did he lose it? Again we asked where the shoe was but all we got was giggles from them both as they ran about the house.

As the time went by and the search progressed, my daughter wasn’t getting any happier. After about thirty minutes of searching my friend asked her daughter if they hid the shoe to which she responded “yes”. It was hidden away in a drawer in her bedroom upstairs. Definitely the last place we would have looked and I think they both knew that too!

They both laughed knowing what they had done and the smiles from my friend and I were quite noticeable. We couldn’t help but think how great it was each time they meet there is lots of fun and laughter and now mischief! I think next time we will have to keep a closer eye on them both as I fear what tricks they might play on us!
