Pushchairs or Prams? Help me identify!

There are so many options when it comes to travel systems for new babies, but yet how do we decide which ultimately is the correct choice? We can't ask which one they (the babies) prefer because wow that would make life so much simplier. Unfortunately parents are left with the hard decision of picking out the "perfect one". I am refering to "perfect one" because with so many choices and variations of which travel system is best its puts pressure on parents who are under enough stress as it is. Marketing made it even more difficult for us to choose by categorising products that appear similar but apparently are different. This confusion by naming each baby travel system differently; we have prams, pushchairs, strollers and buggies. All of which can look the same with only small variations but have huge price variations. How are parents supposed to know what is the best choice?

I am in college and studying Single First-Time Mothers consumption towards baby travel systems (lets just call them pushchairs to make it easier). Everyone knows that the pushchair is used for the baby obviously so the suspension, comfort and protection is vital when picking out the right product. Then finance and other factors (such as will it fit in my car, does it fold easily, is it light) are understood before purchasing the pushchair. Finally the deciding factor would be does it suit the mothers needs? This is what I am curious about. The product is used for the baby but the pushchair could have a "meaning" for the mother.
What I mean is that when mothers tick all their boxes when they are looking for a pushchair but are still left with options what is the deciding factor? Well it must be that mothers have their personal choice/preference, and if the mother has a personal choice/preference (it could be brand, colour, accessories) then could that show there is more "meaning" behind the purchasing of pushchairs? Could it be that the pushchair is a symbol that represents their new role as a mother?

The reason for my title is that I feel pushchairs can be related towards helping women identify and transition into their new role as a mother.

Please comment and question anything I said above, I would love to get some conversation going even if you aren't a single mother I would appreciate your thoughts.
