Had another scan yesterday and all the babies are behaving. They is forward flow through the umbilical cord to each of them so hopefully they are growing well.

They are still closely monitoring me and I am being very well cared for. I will continue to have scans every other day and just hope I can get a bit further before the babies need to be delivered. The consultant was very pleased I got to 27 weeks as that gives the babies a much better chance if they are born now than at 26 weeks and even better at 28 weeks if I make it there.

On Monday I went to a premature breastfeeding class which was so interesting. They talked about what it would be like having babies on the neonatal unit and also spent a lot of time talking about hand expressing and moving onto expressing with a double breast pump.

The expectation, if you are planning on breastfeeding, is to express every three hours for 15-20 minutes right through the day and night and to bring the milk (some frozen and some from the fridge) into the unit each day so that the babies can benefit from the milk. They said that for premature babies milk can remain in the fridge for up to 24 hours only, but it can be frozen in a freezer at home for up to six months. However, they ask you bring it all in each day so that it can be used for the babies.

They emphasised the importance of breast milk for premature babies and although I do not want to put pressure on myself I will do my best to give them my milk.

Yesterday I managed to see the neonatal unit and get a tour. It was an amazing experience to be able to picture the room the babies will be in. Some of the babies are so tiny and I got to see one baby the same size as our Baby One at the moment. That baby was one half of a twin set, who are both doing really well, so that was very reassuring.

I have a more scans over the coming days and if all goes well, we can look forward to the growth scan soon afterwards.
