On this year’s Late Late Toy Show, in a flourish of generosity, Ryan Tubridy decided to throw a few much sought after One Direction dolls into the audience - but there wasn’t enough for everybody. Usually when you don’t win something most people will admit defeat, but not the man in this video clip. He wasn’t going to let that 1D doll go, even if it meant pulling it from the arms of the...

Before you sigh in frustration as your little one throws their food across the kitchen, you might find comfort in the fact that messy children are likely to be better at learning. According to a new study carried out by Dr. Larissa Samuelson from the University of Iowa, toddlers who grasp, feel, taste and throw objects are constantly gathering information about the world. Psychologists tested 72...

Mums and dads in the UK will be able to split 50 weeks of parental leave under new Government plans which come into effect in April 2015. British fathers, who were only entitled to two weeks off, will now officially be able to take parental leave. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said it was time to change the “Edwardian” rules that only mums could take time off while dads had to go back after...

My two boys often get irritable as dinner time approaches, they're hungry from a full day at school and playing outside with their friends. There's usually about 20 minutes between when I ask them to come in gor dinner and it actually landing on the table! The idea to play a game if table tennis by simply extending our IKEA table, building a net with some books and using our faithful MALA...

According to Professor Kefah Mokbel, a surgeon at the private London Breast Clinic, all women over the age of 20 should take Vitamin D to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. The professor is urging Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to make the vitamin free on the NHS saying it will save 1,000 lives a year. Mokbel has already started handing them out to female patients at his private clinic...

Sausages, burgers and chicken nuggets are the most popular items on a kids’ menu, despite Ireland’s ever growing obesity problem. According to research conducted by Safefood, 40% of restaurants offer chips with every kid's meal while just 42% offer any kind of vegetables. The watchdog group, who launched the study at the All-Island Obesity Action Forum, is urging parents to demand that...

Still feeling guilty about eating that chocolate cake over the weekend? Well, according to psychologists, those who see eating cake as something to celebrate are more likely to stay slim than those who are consumed with guilt after. Researcher at the University of Canterbuy in New Zealand, Dr. Roeline Kuijer and Jessica Boyce, wanted to test whether guilt from eating sweet things undermined a...

I didn't realise how much daddy liked to build cars until we played Think Outside the Box at home as part of the IKEA family range of ideas. The cardboard boxes that come into our house are usually flattened and out out for recycling...not turned into a magical car! My little girl wanted to make her car every colour of the rainbow so we stuck lots of the coloured paper we bought in IKEA on to...

The IKEA "Giggling Yoga" Family activity was a huge success in our house. So much so, that my two girls couldn't wait to play it again when they're friends came over on a playdate! The cushions were so luxurious that they made a very comfortable yoga seat and the finger puppets created lots of imaginative play, fun and laughter. The trip to IKEA to buy the items was also a great family...

We were delighted to take part in the IKEA Family activities. My two girls love baking so the "Make something for Santa" activity was ideally suited to our house, and great timing too! The two part mixing bowl set meant they could have one each and the wide variety of pastry cutters were a big hit! We spent about 40 minutes rolling and cutting and then once the biscuits were cooked we had more fun...
